Lake Bodom Questions

Viesti Kirjoittaja Penguin123 »

Hello all, it's been a real struggle to get onto this forum as I do not speak Finnish. I'm from England and have been studying this case using the limited information I have, for the last few years. I hope there's a few of you out that I can reach out to and communicate in English with. I've done my best to run google translator on topics found here viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1194

On looking through various other forum posts and my own limited basic knowledge of this case, I came up up with a few questions for you:

Who was Teuvo Kauhanen? {I've heard this name mentioned on this forum but I do not know why?)

Why did assman goto the hospital the day after Bodom murders?

Is it possible that two people killed the three victims? because 2 weapons were used, a knife and a metal bar?

Does anyone know what the Bodom victims were like? personalities? Was was NG like as a teenager? were they well liked in the village?

thank you

Teuvo Kauhanen is mentioned with Tulilahti case.

Hans Assman is told playing unconscious and faking sickness.

Two murderers is very much spoken theory here. There is some sings that there have been two persons.

NG was quite big and some say he was fighter / boxer.

Thanks for the headsup on Teuvo Kauhanen.
Although Assman was pretending to be unconscious, there's no record of why he originally went into hospital. I have had this video https://yle.fi/aihe/artikkeli/2006/09/0 ... llisyyteen

translated into English and it appears that Dr Palo was nothing more than a student at the time and he never examined Assman. Sounds like Palo is just trying to make a name for himself. Assman appears to have visited the hospital because of red paint on his clothes. The hospital staff provided him with gasoline in order to remove the stains. Assman had a record of visiting that hospital about 100 times according to Dr Palo's interview. Assman sounds like an attention seeker, who likes to instil himself into investigations to bolster his notoriety. Probably thrives on the attention. There was a similar occurrence during the murder of betsy aardsma at Penn State University in 1969, where a fellow unnamed student was suspected but he drew more attention to himself intentionally in order to play mind games with the police. Interestingly this man, would later join the CIA.

I've seen the photos of NG and yes agree he is very tall, even when he was aged 18. He towers over the policemen. So I would estimate his height at 6ft to 6ft 3". What do you think?
Are there any more photos of the other victims Björklund, Boisman, Mäki?

NG was 180 cm (5ft 11") tall. Is that so much even those days?! SB height was only 168 cm, IB was 172 cm (quite much for a woman) and TM 163 cm tall. For TM height, i'm not sure.

Thanks, useful info. Average height of a man in 1960 was 5ft 8" tall. So NG is well above that.

can anyone point me to the link to the Hypnosis interview with NG?

I found this URL but https://www.murha.info/userfiles/file/B ... noosi.pdf/
it doesn't appear to show the hypnosis (hypnoosi) interview?

Hello! Thank you for joining in! Few words of Teuvo Kauhanen: some time ago I did a profile on the 1959 Tulilahti double homicide case. On my profile I came to the conclusion that it was 100% clear that there were two perpetrators and that they lived near the murder site. On the type of personality I thought was involved, other posters who were more familiar with the local people on the Tulilahti area in 1959, found a 23-year old guy named Teuvo Kauhanen, who basically fit perfectly in the definition of "antisocial personality disorder" as an alcohol abuser and having an extensive criminal record including attempted manslaughter. Kauhanen also went through serial marriages during his life. These other posters also found out that Kauhanen had been the police top suspect before Runar Holmström was brought up. Kauhanen did not have an alibi for that evening. It seemed that Kauhanen probably did the Tulilahti killings with his friend Lauri Lyytikäinen.
The most important factor though was that in the Tulilahti beach there was a wall build by a voyeur behind some bushes and woods. This wall had holes through wich the voyeur had watched girls going to swimm. Behind the wall there was a page from a porn magazine and the page was tracked by police to a magazine that was in the posession of Teuvo Kauhanen.
Later Kauhanen moved to Helsinki and there close to his residence in 1963 a 16 year old girl Pirkko Ryhänen was stabbed to dead on the street. She was stabbed around 20 times. The case is unsolved. A bloody 25-30-year old man fitting to Kauhanens description was seen close to the site just after the crime took place.

The Tulilahti and Lake Bodom cases are so very similar to each other that I keep up the possibility that Kauhanen was involved in the Lake Bodom case aswell. In both cases the attack was against people who were in a tent and in both cases the weapons used were a stone and a knife. In the Tulilahti case there were strong signs of sexuality like partial undressing of a victim/victims body and in the Lake Bodom case semen was found on the site.
In both cases the perpetrator also took several items and clothing from the victims with him.

Like said above doctors thought that Assmann was faking illness. I think Assman could be a very good suspect in this case but police still claims that he had an alibi for that night and that he could not have done the murders.

I'm happy to be here! sorry I don't speak Finnish. I find what you wrote about Teuvo Kauhanen, very interesting. He seems to fit the age range also. Interesting also, that he had a friend called Lauri Lyytikäinen who he could have committed the murders with. I also believe that two people were involved as at Bodom, killing 3 people and injuring one is no small effort. I always imagined the following.

Two killers, removed their shoes and crept upto the Bodom tent. They did this to ensure a silent approach.
One of the killers, perhaps the more cautious one, puts on Gustafsson's shoes in order to prevent blood splatter on his socks.
The other killer is more desperate to get on with it. Not uncommon to have two killers:one organized and the other disorganized. Eg: The Hillside Stranglers. One of them holds a knife and the other a rock or metal pipe (I believe that some pipe parts were left at the Vesto site, that night. Perhaps he picked one up from there?). Didn't Gustafsson say it was a metal pipe during his hypnoos session?
One of them, cuts the ropes, causing the tent to collapse. They then take it in turns in stabbing and hitting the victims. They steal what they can and perhaps spend some time with the partially undressed Bjorkland. Perhaps masturbating. They are worried about foot prints, so the other killer wears Boisman's shoes as they hurry away from the scene in the direction of the road leading to the Kiosk. Once far enough away, they remove the bloody shoes and put their own shoes back on. One of them also took Boisman's leather jacket in order to hide the bloodstains on his own shirt.

***As for the pillowcase (measures 40x48cm), where did it come from? I thought that the 4 Bodom victims didn't bring a pillow?***
I read the pillowcase contained small blood stains (not type A or O) which did not belong to the 4 Bodom victims? perhaps they belonged to one of the killers? it's possible he may have got hurt during the attack and bled. Do you know who tested it for sperm(semen)? was it done in 1960 or later? I could not find a record of them testing it for this but I did read that the pillow case contained lipstick marks and coffee stains?

^Yes, two killers is very possible. Though the eyewittnesses sightings point to the direction of a lone killer, but yes many things in how the crime was carried out, point to two killers.

Your thoughts about the shoes is something that I don't remember seeing ever before in any discussions on the case. I think that that is a very good idea that they took their shoes off and I haven't thought that my self either ever before. It is very much true that if you have your shoes on, every step makes a little "thump" and even if one could not hear it while standing, it could be heard very easily if one is lying on the ground in a tent. So maybe this killer or killers thought this aswell and took their shoes of while approaching the tent. Yes this could explain many things.
It is also possible that they took the boys shoes with them goes they even worried about the footprints or something like that... About the leather jacket I agree, I have thought the same.

I believe that there could have been somekind of a robbery in mind aswell...

To me, if you look this how the attack was carried out, it makes me think about someone who had military background, someone who had been in a combat. At that time there were lots of men who had combat experience and in the front during WW2, in the north side of Lake Ääninen the front was not stable... there was no front really, no fortificated positions and so on... in those conditions men would have gained experience of ambushing enemies spleeping at their tents...
Especially if they took their shoes off while approaching and all that kind of confidence in attacking four people makes me feel that there was someone who had done this before.

Of the motive, I think it was someshort of a jealous rage in there... The perpetrator got agitated while seeing these young couples spending the evening... Probably got off sexually of what he did aswell.

Of my understanding the sperm and the blood stains were tested for the blood type after the crime in 1960. Later they tested those for DNA and the DNA-profile is in the posession of the police.

The tv-show Dark Minds had few episodes that have some things common with the case, Dark Minds Death on a Beach S3E4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_okFNhYp9U

"Not of what I know, but Espoo(originally Esbo in swedish) has a history of being very much swedish speaking area."
They came to that trip from Vantaa, they didn't live in Espoo. (It's not rare to have a Swedish surname.)

People in the media have described those kids as nice and good.

"Seppo was a calm guy".
