Vähän murhaajan taustasta:
Apparently, the man now charged with three counts of murder in Nottingham is called
Valdo Calocane. He was born in
Guinea-Bissau, a West African country named after its capital city to distinguish it from the neighboring country of Guinea. A former Portuguese territory, Guinea-Bissau is the only country where the main language is Portuguese, but the main religion is Islam.
So, what of Valdo Calocane himself? His family moved to Wales when he was a teenager at least 15 years ago under their dual Portuguese nationality. They made their home in Haverfordwest (Pembrokeshire), where Valdo attended Sir Thomas Pickton School. His parents and brother still live in Haverfordwest, where his Mum is an NHS nurse, and his dad is a care worker.
They regularly attend Calvary Church, a Pentecostal (Christian) church in Haverfordwest and are generally seen there as a good family according to neighbors. Valdo graduated in engineering last year at the same university in Nottingham as two of his victims (the two young students), but police don’t think there is any other connection.
Still early days, but this is starting to sound more like a tragic ‘loner with mental health and other related issues went on an unexpected rampage’ situation rather than anything else. It should never have happened, but it did, and no number of judgmental assumptions will ever change the facts as they emerge.
