Police are investigating what they are calling a murder of a 9-year-old at the hands of her teenage brother.

St. Clair County Sheriff, Terry Surles, is calling the hanging of a 9-year-old Alabama girl, “intentional.” Last Thursday, the 3rd grade student at Ragland Elementary School was found hanging from a tree. Police say that the girl’s 14-year-old half brother is the one responsible. The brother and sister were living together in a foster home.

The sibling’s foster mother found the victim, Katelynn Arnold, hanging from a tree with a rope tied around her neck like a noose. Sherrif Surles said in a press conference that the foster mom initially drove around looking for the girl when she noticed her missing and then came back to house where she found Katelynn hanging from a tree.

According to KSDK News, Arnold was taken to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The girl’s brother has been arrested and charged with murder.

The principal at Katelynn’s school said, “[Katelynn was like] ones that that love learning and love coming to school, you know, they’re just one of our bright lights here. She was definitely one of our bright lights.”

The girl’s Pastor, Douglas Ford, said simply that he was “heartbroken.”

Poliisit sanovat tutkivansa 9-vuotiaan murhaa. Murhaaja oli tytön teini-ikäinen veli.

St. Clairin piirikunnan sheriffi Terry Surles kutsuu 9-vuoitaan alabamalaistytön hirttämistä "tarkoitukselliseksi". Viime torstaina, Raglandin ala-asteen 3. luokkalainen löydettiin hirtettynä puusta. Poliisi sanoo, että tytön 14-vuotias velipuoli on syyllinen. Veli ja sisko asuivat yhdessä sijaiskodissa.

Sisarusten sijaisäiti, löysi uhrin Katelynn Arnoldin, kaulastaan hirttoköyteen sidottuna. Sheriffi Surles sanoi lehdistökonferenssissa, että sijaisäiti lähti välittömästi ajelemaan ympäriinsä huomatessaan, että tyttö oli hävinnyt, ja sitten palasi kotiin, josta hän löysi Katelynnin hirtettynä puusta.

Yhdysvalloissahan 14-vuotiaalle tulee tuosta kakkua missä hyvänsä osavaltiossa. Voi joutua istumaan pitkäänkin, mikä on ainakin parempi kuin Suomen systeemi, jossa 14-vuotiaalle jo perheestään erotetulle pojalle ei olisi käytännössä mitään seurauksia edes henkirikoksesta, sillä 14-vuotiaathan ovat vielä aivan pikku lapsosia, jotka eivät voi ottaa mitään vastuuta teoistaan

By the way, I'd appreciate it if the mods could translate the title of this thread into Finnish and preferably make it more descriptive, i.e. include the location and so on. I'm not sure if the OP could do it, as well.
