US officials: Amanda Knox will never go back to Italian jail
AMANDA KNOX will never be extradited from America, even if an Italian court this week upholds her conviction for the murder of British student Meredith Kercher, according to US sources.

Lawyers for Knox, 28, are confident she will remain free even if Italy asks for her to be sent back to resume a 28-year jail sentence.
US State Department sources say the uncertainty of the case against Knox means they will not agree to any extradition request.
Knox also has a huge amount of public sympathy in the US where she is seen as a victim of a miscarriage of justice by a foreign court.
A source at the State Department said: “There is a feeling that the whole case is fl awed and that a US citizen should not have to go to jail because of that. If there is an extradition request from Italy it will be denied.”
Knox, who was known as “Foxy Knoxy” at school, will find out this week whether her conviction for the murder of 21-year-old Meredith in 2007 at the home they shared in Perugia, Italy, will be upheld.
This Friday also sees the release of The Face Of An Angel, a Hollywood film starring Cara Delevingne which is loosely based on the case. Genevieve Gaunt plays the Knox character.
Knox spent four years in jail but was freed on appeal in 2011. She returned to the US where opinion polls showed most Americans thought she was the victim of a botched police investigation.
She also appeared in a TV special about the case whichreinforced the US view that she was innocent.
Last year an appeal court in Italy reinstated her original conviction, ordering her and boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito to serve their original sentences of 28 and 25 years.
Another man, Rudy Guede, is serving a 16-year sentence for Meredith’s murder.
Prosecutors claim Meredith, of Coulsdon, south London, died in a sex game that went wrong. Knox and her boyfriend said they found her body, which had stab wounds.
The pair maintained their innocence from the moment of their arrest.
Italy’s highest court is expected to rule this week that the conviction be upheld. Knox will still be free, however, much to the anguish of Meredith’s family, who remain convinced of her guilt. They have had to endure her making millions from a book about her ordeal.
Knox, who recently became engaged to old school friend Colin Sutherland, has found work as a journalist on her local paper in Seattle as she rebuilds her life.
She has told friends she would go on the run rather than return to prison in Italy.
