Pormestarin mukaan asemies tappoi poliisin ja siviilin klubin ulkopuolella ennenkuin ampui väkeä klubin sisäpuolella n. klo 1:45 aikoihin. Niinkin paljon kuin 800 ihmistä on saattanut olla yökerhon sisällä, raportoi paikallinen media. Juhlijat jopa hyppäsivät Bosphorukseen (jonkinlainen vesistö/allas, ilmeisesti) paetakseen luotisadetta, sosiaalisen median raporttien mukaan.

One attacker with a long-range weapon was responsible for the carnage at Istanbul's Reina nightclub, the city governor has said.
"A terrorist with a long-range weapon… brutally and savagely carried out this incident by firing bullets on innocent people who were there solely to celebrate the New Year and have fun," Vasip Sahin told reporters, according to the BBC. Initial reports said there were two or more attackers involved in the act of terrorism that has killed 35 and injured at least 40. Witnesses say the gunman or gunmen were speaking Arabic. Sahin said the gunman killed a police officer and a civilian outside the club before firing on the crowd inside at around 1:45 a.m. There may have been as many as 800 people inside, local media are reporting. Revelers even jumped into the Bosphorus to escape the hail of bullets, according to social media reports. //

USA:n tiedustelupalvelu oli varoittanut tällaisesta iskusta ja että alueella oli tehty turvatoimia 1 viikon ja 10 päivän ajan ja omistaja kysyykin että "mitä sitten tapahtui?"

Reina is a club located in our most famous city in our country, Istanbul. Police, before today, said they tightened security around Taksim in case of terror attacks, which is where the place is located at. Our police guys were disguised as Santa. Everybody knowing this, gave terrorists an opportunity to use the same outfit, to look like a police. They entered the club and killed at least 40 guys, confirmed by our government. This club's security guys are also killed by this terrorists. And now, there are people saying that 'why did they celebrate the new year there? It is the most popular place in turkey, isn't ot obvious there would be a terror attack.' Fuck everybody who thinks like that! Islamist sons of bitches!

Paikallisen mukaan alueen poliisit olivat tiukentaneet turvatoimia terrori-iskujen varalta ja poliisit olivat naamioituneet joulupukeiksi. Näin ollen jos hyökkääjä on ollut tietoinen poliisien peitetehtävästä joulupukkeina, on hyökkääjä voinut hyödyntää tietoa ja naamioitua siksi joulupukiksi .
