PHUKET: Two Swedish men were arrested this evening (August 2), charged with the brutal murder of a Russian expat last night.

Tommy Viktor Söderlund and Johan Sebastian Ljung, both 26, were arrested at the Surin Sweet Hotel in Surin, where they had apparently gone into hiding after fatally stabbing Maxim Schantz, 25, at his home inside The Lantern housing development.

Both men confessed to the murder, saying it was a revenge attack after a business partnership turned sour, though they claimed they did not intend to kill Mr Schantz.

The three men had previously been part of a call centre scam operation in Pattaya.

In Febraury Mr Schantz apparently fell out with the group and left, taking with him a list of all their "customers" and delivering it to Pattaya police. That led to the arrest of Söderlund, who was later released on bail.

After a quick search of Facebook, Söderlund and Ljung found that Mr Schantz had moved to Phuket, and decided to pay him a visit.

It took them three weeks to track him down, but they eventually found him living in The Lantern in Koh Kaew, and moved into a house opposite.

When Mr Schantz returned home last night, the two men confronted him and tried to force him into their house.

Mr Schantz resisted, leading Ljung to fatally stab him in the throat in the ensuing struggle.

“It was an accident,” Söderlund told police.

The two then fled the scene, commandeering a motorbike during their escape.

They initially checked into the Andaman Place Hotel in Thalang District, before moving to Surin Sweet Hotel, where they were arrested. A blood-stained T-shirt belonging to Ljung was found in their room.

The two men will appear in court soon.

Swedes Face Phuket Court Over Killing of Third Swede

PHUKET: Two Swedish men accused of the murder of a third Swede on Phuket earlier this year appeared in Phuket Provincial Court today to face five charges in relation to the killing.

Tommy Viktor Soderlund and Johan Sebastian Ljung, both aged 26, pleaded not guilty to all counts.



The pair were dressed in brown Phuket Prison uniforms with handcuffs on their wrists and shackles on their ankles. Today's proceedings were translated from Thai into English.

Two judges, sitting at the court in Phuket City, were told that that results of an autopsy on Maksim Schantz, 25, were not yet available.

Specifics of a handgun allegedly brandished on August 1 at a luxury Phuket City residential block, The Lantern, were also not yet available.

A lawyer, Ronakorn Kaempila, said he was from Bangkok and had been engaged by Mr Soderlund's mother to act on behalf of both men.

Five charges were read to the court:

..Possession of a handgun and seven bullets with no permit;

..Possession of a handgun in a public area;

..Threatening use of as knife in a public area;

..Conspiracy to murder;

..Theft of a motorcycle.

The two men pleaded ''not guilty'' once, to all charges.

Schantz was stabbed in the throat and later died from the wound when the three men, two of them former business partners, scuffled outside Shantz's rented three-storey duplex.

The Swedes insisted that murder was never their intention. They had come to Phuket from Pattaya to talk to Schantz, who allegedly stole a list of potential Swedish victims of a call centre scam being operated from Pattaya.

As Schantz bled to death, the two men allegedly fled through a back fence, ordering a local resident to surrender his motorcycle. They were arrested the next day in Cherng Talay, in Phuket's north.

The hearing was adjourned until next year.

Lyhyt selvitys "englannittomille": Kolmikolla oli laiton firma, josta jossain vaiheessa venäläinen päätti ottaa hatkat ja nappasi mukaansa mm. listat yrityksen asiakkaista. Firma tarjosi puhelinpalveluita, tms. Ruottalaiset siitä hermostui, kyttäsivät karkurin facebookkia kunnes selvisi hänen uusi osoite, Phuket. Parissa viikossa löysivät hänet ja hommasivat kämpän tien toiselta puolelta missä uhri asui. Uhri pyöritti jo uutta omaa firmaansa. Pian olikin edessä jälleennäkeminen ja tarkoitus oli viedä karkuri heidän kämpilleen "puhutteluun" (tämä tekijöiden sanomaa siis). Uhri ei siihen suostunut, siitä syttyi kärhämä jolloin toinen heistä puukotti uhria kuolettavasti niskaan. Karkumatka ei ollut pitkä ja lopulta heidät löydettiin hotellista siksi kun toisen tekijän tyttöystävän kengät olivat huoneen oven ulkopuolella. Se herätti poliisin epäilykset ja miehet löytyikin asunnon kylppäristä piilottelemasta.

Taustalla oli vielä mm. 100000 antaminen ks. tytölle ja pidetettynä oli myös joku 36v (muistaakseni) ruotsalainen ukko. Palkkamurhasta oli jossain siis mainintaa. Huhuja vai ei, who knows. Eli olisko toi 36v ollut huijarifirman big boss ja sitten palkannut väkeä hoitelemaan uhrin?

Ai niin ja siihen aloittajan kysymykseen: Juttua jatketaan 21. ja 22. kesäkuuta sekä 14. ja 15. elokuuta 2012. Tuomion tulevat istumaan hyvin todennäköisesti ruotsissa. Toivottavasti nauttivat tuomion odottelusta... Phuket Provincial Prison tuntuisi olevan varsin mukava paikka.
