Yes.. that is correct. But the search for the "phone" did not start while the phone was still on. When it is on there could be ways to do triangulation (though i dont know if base stations support this kind of functionalities - there is something called "emergency locating" which can be requested from 112, but requires the phone to be on).Searchthem kirjoitti: Thank you for your comments. I thought she had her phone on untill it turned off around midnight. I also thought she had a phone subscription and that her Internet was on untill midnight. Please let me know if any of this information is incorrect. Thanks!
Later on the logs can be analysed up to the level which cell tower it has had connection and what time. "Triangulation" requires multiple cell towers with timing advances (time from device to cell tower) or at least signal strengths from the device, but this is information that (only) the phone knows (as far as i know information that is logged is about when phone decides to connect and disconnect to some cell tower - otherwise it could easily produce a really huge log tens or hundreds gigabytes per day - possible but very much unlikely - if i remember correctly carriers were bit reluctant ~10 yrs ago to storage logs even about these connections).
Therefore in Nuuksio where one cell can have many square kilometers range - this information does not help too much.
